Ian Thomson-Smith

Ian has recently retired, having been a primary headteacher for 22 years, 17 of those in Otley.  He has held leadership roles in Doncaster, York, North Yorkshire and Leeds, and has led schools through eight successful Ofsted inspections, the most recent being in June 2023.  He has also worked as an advisor with the Diocese of Leeds, supporting schools across five different local authorities in developing their effectiveness and Christian distinctiveness, including readiness for their Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. 

Away from education he leads the music for worship at his local church, and is also a principal singer and current chair of York Opera.
